The only thing it Digital Storm Avon has going against it is it’s 17.3-inch screen could have been brighter and the speakers are a bit sluggish. With its blazing power and the included three-year warranty The Avon is a great all-around gaming notebook. Digital Storm Laptops Good

Pricing and configuration options

I have tested the basic model of Digital Storm Avon, which is priced at $1,999. It comes with the Intel Core i7-9750H processor and an Nvidia GeForce 2070 Max-Q GPU with 8GB of VRAM, 16GB RAM, and 500GB Digital Storm Performance Series SSD.

An upgrade from that is the $2,349 option that gives you 32GB RAM and 1TB Digital Storm Performance Series SSD. If you’re looking to go all-in, you can set up your Storm Avont with two 1TB Samsung 970 Pro SSDs for $3,242.

Design

Digital Storm’s Digital Storm Avon” Hood is made up of a polycarbonate-metal hybrid and has the look of a brushed surface, which is with a black-and-white glossy Digital Storm logo. It’s subtle, but boring. It’s possible to be extravagant and still be fashionable however, this laptop can’t really do it justice. I also observed that the corners of the chassis were incredibly sharp.

There’s a small lighting bar located below the lip, and it looks pretty attractive. When I opened the cover, I was introduced by a futuristic mechanical keyboard that was slamming the deck with waves in RGB lighting. The majority of the deck features the soft-touch black look and just below there is a fake-aluminum accent that emphasizes games mode buttons (increases the speed of the fan) and the power button. The bezels are quite thin and the webcam is located on top which is nice.

As I lifted the lidof the case, I was met by a sci-fi-themed mechanical keyboard that blasts an array of RGB lighting.

Despite its 17-inch dimensions and weight of 5.7 tons as well as 15.5 inches x 10.24 and 1.6 inches and 1.6 inches, the Digital Storm Avon felt relatively light in my hands. It’s true that it’s not going to match up to its 15-inch rivals like those like the Gigabyte Aero 15 Classic (4.6 pounds; 0.7 inches), the Razer Blade 15 (4.7 pounds, 0.7 inches) and the Lenovo Legion Y740 (5 pounds, 0.9 inches).

Ports

This baby is equipped with ports for days.

On the left on the left side of Digital Storm Avon, you’ll see the RJ45 port, a USB 2.0 port, and seperate inputs for the headphone as well as microphone connectors.

The backside houses an power connector, a USB Type-C port and an HDMI port, and 2 Mini Display Ports. The right side includes two USB 3.1 ports as well as one SD card slot.

Display

The Digital Storm’s 17.3-inch display, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. display is bright, however it’s not the most vibrant. It does have stunning 144Hz of refresh rate.

The game I was playing is Middle-earth: Shadow of War, and Talion’s armor was shining when the character stood in front of a bright stone wall. However, overall, the colors did not shine. Though I could see a lot of my surroundings within the dark caverns that make up a stronghold, the image could have been more vibrant. I did like the smoothness of my movements as I bounded around and cut the savages using my sword.

Audio

Digital Storm Avon Digital Storm Avon’s bottom-firing speakers were surprisingly quiet , and they could barely fill a small office space with Bohnes’ “Zombie Love.” The heavy bass that begins the track sounded muted, and had very minimal impression. The drumbeats throughout the song were soft. While the vocals were clear, they were too quiet.

More: The Best Headsets for Immersive Gaming

It was a game called Shadow of War, and I was unable to understand the words of the orcs when I took a stance on them and hammered. The sound emanating out of my weapon was dull like the blade hadn’t been sharpened by my sword over the years. Also, when I fired the arrows I was aiming at my enemies, it sounded as if that I had thrown twigs instead of delivering that satisfying snap of an arrow released.

The audio software isn’t included in this headset. Digital Storm Avon. I’d highly recommend the best gaming headset when you decide to buy this headset.

Gaming, graphics, and VR

In the underside that this beast measures 17 inches is the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU that has eight GB of memory. The GPU ripped in Shadow of War at 104 frames per second while I cut my way into an orc army, to an impressive 50x combination in Ultra, 1080p without making a snort.

In the Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark (Very High 1080p) The Digital Storm Avon nailed 66 FPS, which is comparable to Legion Y740’s GPU that is identical and was well over the 43-fps laptop gaming average. The identical GPU and the same GPU, both the Aero 15 Classic (55 fps) as well as The Razer Blade 15 (60 FPS) performances were just a little slower.

Digital Storm Avon Digital Storm Avon soared to the triple figures when measured against the Hitman benchmark (Ultra 1080p, 1080p) with a speed of 108 fps which is more than a regular gaming laptop (76 FPS) and also it’s Aero 15 Classic (98 fps) as well as The Razer Blade 15 (96 FPS) as well as Legion Y740 (96 FPS).

In the Grand Theft Auto V benchmark (Very High) the Digital Storm Avon averaged 88 FPS, which is way over the average of 54 fps for the category. It again beat its competitors: the Aero 15 Classic (75 fps) and that of the Razer Blade 15 (76 fps) and the Legion Y740 (67 FPS).

The Digital Storm Avon scored a perfect 11 on the Steam VR Performance Test, rolling over that 7.9 standard for the category. Although The Aero 15 Classic also had an unbeatable score however, the Legion Y740 was off by 0.1 and scored 10.9. 10.9.

Battery Life

The Digital Storm Avon’s battery life isn’t bad for a gaming laptop however, it could be better. After a continuous surfing of the internet using Wi-Fi, at 150 nits illumination, it lasts about 3 hours 45 mins. This is about a quarter of the 4:04 gaming laptop’s average. Digital Storm Avon Digital Storm Avon destroyed the Legion Y740 (2:16) but it was unable to beat its counterparts, the Aero 15 Classic (6:58) or the Razer Blade 15 (5:02).

Webcam

The Digital Storm’s 720p-capable camera produces low-resolution, blotchy photos. The only thing it emphasised was the stripes of red on my flannel shirt. I couldn’t see the green, yellow or even pink.

The ceiling also got exaggerated due to the bright contrast. It’s safe to say you need to invest in the use of an an external camera in case you intend to streaming.

Heat

Although this Digital Storm Avon hit some moderately hot temperatures it didn’t feel hot to the touch when playing. After running Shadow of War for 15 minutes, the lower part of the laptop soared to 117°F, which is over our comfort level of 95 degrees. In the middle, the touchpad and keyboard hit 85 and 87° respectively. The highest temperature the machine reached was 140 degrees on the upper right-hand side.

When we ran our standard testing of the heat that requires that the laptop stream a 15-minute video at 1080p and the bottom of the screen measured 101 degrees. The middle of the keyboard measured 94 degrees, while the center of the touchpad was an 87-degree temperature.

Software and Warranty

The software included in Digital Storm Avon is unique. Digital Storm Avon is relatively basic. It comes with an application named Gaming Center that lets you configure the laptop in Game Mode or Office Mode that automatically regulates the speed of your fan. Through the app you can also check what the temperatures of your processor and the network speed. Also you can alter the backlighting of your keyboard and light bar through the app, too.

There’s as well Windows 10 bloatware, such as Gardenscapes, Candy Crush Friends and Asphalt Street Storm Racing.

Digital Storm Avon offers a 3-year warranty that is included as standard that’s pretty awesome considering that many companies require customers to pay more than that for the duration of time.

Bottom Line

Digital Storm Avon Digital Storm Avon ($1,999) comes with a variety of excellent attributes, including its outstanding performance, a super-satisfying mechanical keyboard, and even the addition of a three-year limited warranty. But a laptop for gaming equipped with quiet speakers does not provide the best gaming laptop.

If you’re ready to invest in top gaming laptops, then you can opt for the Razer Blade 15 ($2,649) The laptop has a brighter 15.6-inch display and a long battery life that’s packed into a head-spinning shape.

However, overall the Digital Storm Avon is a great choice if you’re looking for speed and an excellent typing experience that will help you win in games.
